1. The Gathering Place
You won’t find a list of the best things to do in Tulsa, Oklahoma without The Gathering Place being at the top!
This state-of-the-art park was just named USA Today’s Best City Park 2024. Its unique play structures and hands-on activities are sure to delight kids of all ages. In fact, our kids beg to go here any time we are in the area.
Even adults will enjoy the sights of the beautiful scenery and find enjoyment in kayak rides (in season), basketball, volleyball and biking trails. The Gathering Place has no admission fee making it a no-brainer for your Tulsa itinerary.


Philbrook Museum of Art
The Philbrook Museum of Art is one of the top attractions in Tulsa. This world-class collection of art is housed in a stunning historic home, which is truly a piece of art in and of itself. The artworks originate from a range of time periods and include American and international works and sculptures.
The 300 BC mummy case complete with hieroglyphics was a favorite of our kids. In addition, our family loved exploring the 25 acres of beautiful gardens surrounding the museum. Adding the Philbrook Museum of Art to your Tulsa getaway will make it an educational trip your family won’t soon forget!

Tulsa Air and Space Museum
Located in the heart of Tulsa, this museum offers an immersive experience for aviation enthusiasts of all ages. Explore the hands-on exhibits and vintage aircraft at eye level. The Tulsa Air and Space Museum is also home to the James E. Bertelsmeyer Planetarium which offers a variety of educational opportunities featuring full-dome videos and live star tours.
Oklahoma Aquarium
Just outside of Tulsa, the Oklahoma Aquarium is a family-friendly attraction for all animal lovers. Highlights include stingray, seahorses, jellyfish, and electric eel. In addition, you can stroll through a glass tunnel surrounded by sharks! The sea turtles are always our family favorite when visiting the Oklahoma aquarium.
If your kids need to get out some extra energy, there is also a fun outdoor playground open to all ticket holders. We suggest the Oklahoma Aquarium to anyone looking for things to do with kids in Tulsa!

Tulsa Zoo
Exploring local zoos is always a favorite when traveling with family or friends! This 84-acre zoo has popular exhibits featuring komodo dragons, Malayan tigers, snow leopards, Asian elephants, black howler monkeys and more. For an additional fee, you can also have the experience of feeding giraffes by hand!
If you enjoy guided tours, The Tulsa Zoo offers walking tours through a variety of their exhibits. These walking tours are led by zoo educators and are a great way to learn even more about these majestic creatures.

Tulsa Botanic Garden
For blooms in all seasons, take a leisurely stroll through the Tulsa Botanic Garden, home to 170 beautiful acres of gardens. Just 15 minutes northwest of downtown Tulsa, this is one of the most beautiful sites to see in the area. As a gardening wannabe, I am always amazed at the stunning variety of flowers and plants displayed. The Tulsa Botanic Garden is open Tuesday – Saturday and does have an admission fee.

The Gilcrease Museum
Calling all art lovers! The Gilcrease Museum houses an extensive collection of American Art and historical artifacts. It features the largest compilation of art of the American West in the world. Additionally, this museum sponsors a program called “Gilcrease in Your Neighborhood“, which places art replicas along popular Tulsa nature trails.
*Note: At the time of this writing, the Gilcrease Museum is closed due to construction. A brand new state-of-the-art building is being constructed which will make the Gilcrease an even more coveted Tulsa attraction.
Arboretum
The Arboretum at Woodward Park is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll. The wide variety of trees are beautiful and we loved that they were labeled by type of tree. A selection of these trees are even imported from other parts of the world, such as the Dawn Redwood from China. One of my favorite parts of the Arboretum area is a picturesque greenhouse with a curated variety of cactus and succulents for you to explore.

Hiking
This one is for you outdoor enthusiasts! One of the best hiking areas in Tulsa, Oklahoma is Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness. This forested park features a myriad of hiking and mountain biking trails from beginner to moderate abilities. The winding trails curve through trees and around ponds to give you the escape into nature you crave without leaving the city.
Likewise, Chandler Park is another ideal place for hiking in Tulsa. The nature trails have scenic views of Tulsa and Sand Springs and there are even some rock formations for climbing. In addition to hiking, Chandler Park also features playgrounds, disc golf, picnic tables and a splash pad for even more family fun.

Greenwood Cultural Center
The Greenwood Cultural Center celebrates and preserves the proud history of the African American community and the Greenwood District, which was home to a vibrant African American commercial hub. Learn about the Tulsa Race Massacre and how the Greenwood Cultural Center plays a key role in restoring this multicultural district.
Sporting Events
If you’ve got sports on the brain, you’re in luck! Tulsa is home to several sports teams such as the Tulsa Drillers (baseball), FC Tulsa (soccer), and Tulsa Oilers (hockey).
