Cliff Walk Parking: Where to Park for the Best Access
Finding parking for Newport’s Cliff Walk can feel overwhelming, but I’m here to make it easy for you! After visiting this stunning trail myself, I’ve discovered the two best spots for convenient access to the Cliff Walk.
In this post I’ll share where to park, what to expect and tips to make your visit stress-free so you can focus on enjoying the breathtaking views.

The Best Parking Spots for the Cliff Walk
There are two main parking spots that provide easy access to the Cliff Walk, the iconic 3.5 mile trail which hugs the coast in Newport, Rhode Island. The first is the parking area on Memorial Boulevard located near Easton’s Beach. The second is near Forty Steps on Narragansett Avenue.

Parking Near Easton’s Beach (Memorial Boulevard)
Parking on Memorial Boulevard near Easton’s Beach is a great choice if you plan to hike the entire Cliff Walk, since it is on the north side of the trail. This lot provides convenient access to the trailhead, though you should be prepared for a short uphill walk to reach it.
Parking here is available daily from 9 AM to 9 PM, with a cost of $2 per hour, payable at nearby meters. Keep in mind there’s a 3-hour time limit so plan accordingly if you want to explore the full trail.

Parking Near Forty Steps (Narragansett Avenue)
Parking at Forty Steps on Narragansett Avenue is another great option for accessing the Cliff Walk, especially if you don’t plan to hike the entire trail. Parking here costs $2 per hour with a 4-hour time limit, making it an affordable and convenient choice.
Public restrooms are also located at this spot and are open seasonally.
To park, simply enter your license plate number into the machine and pay with either cash or card.
From here, I recommend heading south along the trail, where you’ll encounter some of the most interesting and scenic spots, including stunning ocean views and historic Gilded Age mansions.
Returning to Your Car
If you walk the entire trail to the southern end of the Cliff Walk, you may not feel like trekking all the way back to your car. Luckily enough, there is a public trolley stop right at Reject’s Beach where the trail ends.
If you parked on Narragansett Avenue, there will be a trolley stop close to your parking area. If you parked at Easton’s Beach, you may have to walk a bit from the trolley stop, however taking the trolley will still save you quite a bit of walking.
