Morning
Start off your getaway with a delicious breakfast at Urban Egg in downtown Colorado Springs. This brunch restaurant features an extensive menu, modern decor, and indoor and outdoor seating. Our favorite menu items were the omelets and blue corn huevos rancheros.
Urban Egg also offers unique drink options such as strawberry basil lemonade and urban beet juice blend.

Now that your breakfast cravings have been fulfilled, head to one of Colorado Springs’ most beautiful sights, Seven Falls.
This Colorado Springs attraction features a .8 mile walk on a paved trail surrounded by seriously stunning scenery. At the end of the hike, you will discover the sights and sounds of seven natural waterfalls.
Experience the falls from the bottom, hike up stairs to the top, or take an elevator to the overlook for a variety of views.
There are restrooms located throughout the trail, as well as an upscale restaurant (Restaurant 1858) and a couple food trucks.
Our kids loved this hike and it was the perfect spot for a family photo. Next time we want to try the zipline!
Purchase your tickets to the Seven Falls in advance to ensure availability.

Afternoon
Take a break from the adventure for unique gourmet mac and cheese at The Mactory. Explore the mouth-watering menu featuring lobster mac and cheese and sweet ‘n sour mac.
Next, make your way to Pikes Peak where there are a variety of ways to explore!
- Drive. It takes around 2-3 hours for the round trip drive up Pikes Peak. You will also want to reserve 30 minutes or so to explore at the top where you can take pictures, walk through the visitor’s center, and even get a donut and cup of coffee. If you don’t want to drive all the way to the top, there are several turn around points on the way up.
- Take the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. The 1 hour and 10 minute ride on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway is a great option if you don’t want to drive yourself. You will get 40 minutes to explore the summit, then ride the railway back down.
- Take a Jeep tour. What could be more fun than summiting a mountain on a Jeep tour! This popular adventure should be booked in advance, as it often sells out.
Note: The altitude of Pikes Peak is 14,115 feet. Do you research on altitude sickness before hand to decide if this is the right adventure for you. Pack plenty of water and snacks to keep you feeling your best.

Evening
For dinner, visit the local favorite Edelweiss German Restaurant where you can experience five star hospitality and delicious, authentic German cuisine.
Finally, catch a sunset at one of Colorado Springs’ most iconic landmarks, the Garden of the Gods. This park is home to awe-inspiring geological formations and ecological rarities.
While there are many beautiful hiking options in this area, we recommend the Perkins Central Garden Trail. This is an easy, paved trail just 1.1 miles long. It is easily accessible for everyone, even those with strollers or wheelchairs, with parking and restrooms at the trailhead.
Though this hike can be done in 20-30 minutes, there is so much beauty to explore! Look for the popular rock formations known as “kissing camels” and “white rock”.
In addition, make sure to keep your eyes open for wildlife. We saw several chipmunks, hawks, a big horned sheep and even a deer that ran right in front of us.
The trail is open daily and has free admission. You can bring Fido with you as long as he is on a leash.
If you have time, swing by the Garden of the Gods Visitor’s Center to learn more about the geography and wildlife of the region. The gift shop inside is one of our favorite places to get a unique local souvenir.
If you’d like a change of pace from a hike, check out the many popular tours of the Garden of the Gods including a Jeep tour or guided e-bike tour!

Where is Colorado Springs Located?
Located just one hour south of Denver, Colorado Springs is perfectly nestled in the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak.
If you are coming from Denver to Colorado Springs for your day trip, simply take Highway 25 south. If you are coming from the east or west, Highway 24 will bring you right into downtown.
The Best Time to Visit Colorado Springs
While Colorado Springs offers visitors beautiful, unique experiences in every season, our personal favorite is late spring and early summer. It is typically warm enough to enjoy the outdoors, yet not blazing hot. July and August are also great times to visit, however there will be more crowds during those months.

Tips for Your Day Trip to Colorado Springs
- Arrive as early as possible to make the most of your day.
- Purchase any admission tickets or tours in advance, especially if you are going during the busy season.
