Best Time to Visit Anna Maria Island for Perfect Weather & Less Crowds
Anna Maria Island is one of our favorite beach destinations, and if you’ve ever been, you know why.
This little slice of paradise on Florida’s Gulf Coast has soft white sand, stunning blue-green water and a laid-back, Old Florida charm that always has us dreaming of our next trip.
But here’s the thing–the time of year you visit can make a big difference. Want to avoid peak-season crowds? Score the best weather? Save some money? Timing is everything.
→ My top recommendation for the best time to visit Anna Maria Island is mid-April to mid-May. Read on to find out why.

Weather on Anna Maria Island by Season
The beaches on Florida’s Gulf Coast stay fairly warm year-round, but each season brings its own vibe. Here’s what to expect by season on AMI:
Winter (December, January & February)
- Temperatures: Highs in the 60s-70s°F, lows in the 50s°F.
- Sunshine: Mostly dry, with occasional cold fronts.
- Crowd Level: Low–this is the season for snowbirds to arrive, escaping the cold up north. However, you won’t find as many vacationing families.
Winter is perfect if you want mild, sunny days and fewer crowds. Be aware that it can get cooler and breezy during this time and the water may be chilly.
Spring (March, April & May)
- Temperatures: Highs in the 70s-80s°F, lows in the 60s°F.
- Sunshine: Warm, sunny and ideal for beach days.
- Crowd Level: Busy in March and early April (spring break and Easter), but quieter by mid-April.
Mid-April to mid-May is hands-down the best time to visit Anna Maria Island. The weather is perfect, the crowds thin out, and prices are lower than the peak season.
Summer (June, July & August)
- Temperatures: Highs in the upper 80s-90s°F, humid.
- Sunshine: Hot, with some afternoon thunderstorms.
- Crowd Level: Families on summer vacation keep things busy.
Summer is great if you love warm ocean water and don’t mind the heat. Just be prepared for quick afternoon storms (which usually pass fast) and the occasional tropical system. Anna Maria Island is buzzing with tours and activities, making it an exciting time to visit!
Fall (September, October & November)
- Temperatures: Highs in the 70s-80s°F, lows in the 60s°F.
- Sunshine: Starts hot and sunny but cools down by late October.
- Crowd Level: Medium- this is one of the quieter times on the island.
Fall is an ideal time to visit due to the lower crowds, yet still gorgeous weather. The humidity is low, and the holiday rush hasn’t started yet.
Peak Season, Shoulder Season & Off-Season
Peak Season (June-August)
If you want to bask in the heat of the Florida sun and don’t mind the crowds (or the price tag), Anna Maria Island is a great place to visit on summer vacation.
Just remember to plan ahead–vacation rentals book up to a year in advance and many Anna Maria Island restaurants require reservations.
Shoulder Season (April-May & September-November)
This is the sweet spot! We always aim for the shoulder seasons when traveling–it offers the perfect mix of great weather, fewer crowds and better deals on accommodations.
The only downside? It doesn’t always line up with school schedules, which can make planning a bit tricky for families.
Off-Season (December-March)
Winter can bring cooler temps, but the Gulf stays warmer than most parts of the United States, making it a great winter escape. Plus, you’ll have fewer crowds and the cost of vacation rentals will be less.
Hurricane Season on Anna Maria Island
Hurricane season runs from June through November, with the highest risk from August to October. Though a direct hit is rare, Anna Maria Island was recently impacted by Hurricane Milton. If you’re visiting during this time, consider travel insurance and keep an eye on the weather forecast.

Best Time to Visit Anna Maria Island
